Lip Services Aftercare: First 7 Days of Do's and Don'ts in Buffalo NY

If you just had lip blushing (or another one of my Lip Services), the single most important rule for the first 72 hours is this: keep your lips clean, keep your hands off them, and follow the ointment directions I gave you. That’s the difference between a smooth heal and a stressed, flaky heal. Here in Buffalo, wind and cold can make lips feel tight fast, so aftercare isn’t just a suggestion, it’s how you protect your result.

First 24 to 48 hours: the rules that prevent swelling and patchy healing

Right after Lip Services, your lips are doing active repair. A little swelling and tenderness is common, and your color may look brighter than you expected at first. That settles as healing moves along.

Quick do’s (first 48 hours): Wash hands before touching your lips, cleanse gently as directed, and apply a thin layer of the sterile ointment or balm I recommended. Keep water and products simple. Pat, don’t rub.

Skip these for at least 48 to 72 hours: kissing, lipstick or lip gloss, heavy exercise, saunas, hot yoga, and anything that leaves you sweaty or overheated. Heat and friction are the two big troublemakers early on. I also want you to avoid swimming and hot tubs in this window, because soaking and shared water can irritate healing skin.

And yes, Buffalo summer sun can be just as rough as lake-effect winter wind. If you’re heading outside near Delaware Park, keep your face out of direct sun and wind as much as you can in the first couple days.

Days 3 to 7: what’s normal, what’s not, and what to avoid until you’re settled

By day three, most people feel more “themselves, ” but the lips can still go through a dry phase. You might notice light flaking or peeling. Don’t pick. I know it’s tempting, especially if you’ve got plans on Elmwood over the weekend and you want everything to look perfect. Picking can pull pigment and leave uneven spots.

Keep the routine boring: gentle cleanse, thin layer of the recommended balm, and no lip makeup until the surface is done peeling and feels calm again. If you’re the person who usually re-applies lip products all day, this is the week to slow that down.

  • Avoid: exfoliants, acids, fragranced balms, and spicy or very salty foods if they sting.
  • Avoid: extended hot showers aimed at your face. Warm is fine. Steamy is not your friend.
  • Do: protect lips from wind. Buffalo gusts in the colder months can dry you out fast, even on a quick walk.

If this was your first visit and you already have a follow-up on the calendar, that’s exactly how I like to do it. Healing tells us a lot, and that follow-up is where we fine-tune.

The simple lip aftercare routine I’d rather you do than overdo

Aftercare for lip services is not about using ten products. It’s about keeping the area clean, lightly protected, and left alone. Over-applying balm can keep the skin too wet, and under-applying can leave you cracked and uncomfortable. I’m looking for the middle.

My rule of thumb: A thin layer means your lips feel comfortable, not glossy. If you can see a thick shine, it’s usually too much.

Sun and weather protection in Buffalo

Once your initial peeling is done and your lips feel sealed again, I want you thinking about sun protection. Late-summer sun in Buffalo can fade fresh color faster than people think. In fall and winter, it’s the wind and indoor heat that get you, so keep a simple, fragrance-free balm with you and reapply lightly when you feel dry.

When to reach out to me (and when it’s just normal healing)

Some swelling, tenderness, and a “tight” feeling is usually normal in the first few days. Bruising can happen too, especially if you’re prone to it. What I don’t want is anything that gets worse instead of better.

  • Reach out right away if you have increasing pain, heavy bleeding, fever, spreading redness, or drainage that looks like infection.
  • Reach out within 24 hours if swelling feels excessive or you’re unsure if what you’re seeing is normal for your stage of healing.
  • If you’re just anxious, that’s reason enough to check in. I’d rather answer a quick message than have you guessing.

I’ve been doing this work in Buffalo for a long time, and I take aftercare seriously because it protects your results. People stick with me for years because I’m consistent and I care about how things wear over time, not just how they look when you stand up from the bed.

Quick definitions: lip blushing and hyaluron pen lip filler

If you’re still deciding which Lip Service fits your goal, here are the plain-English basics:

  • Lip blushing is a semi-permanent makeup technique that enhances your natural lip color and shape for a more defined look.
  • Hyaluron pen lip filler is a non-invasive method that uses air pressure to inject hyaluronic acid for plumper lips without needles.
  • Safety note: Hyaluron pen lip fillers are generally safe when administered by a trained professional.
